This past Friday almost 200 Lincoln Middle School students ran in the eighth annual PE Team Marathon. This event is unique to School District 81, and has become one of the great traditions of our school community. Each year all Lincoln students have the opportunity to form teams and run together at West Leyden High School for the day. It is a great opportunity that encourages physical fitness, teamwork, school spirit, and service learning. This year the students raised funds and ran for the National Center on Shaken Baby Syndrome. The warm up lap was run in honor of the babies and children. To see our students holding up posters with the photographs and names of those who they were running in honor of is always heartwarming and inspiring. A special tribute also went to the victims and survivors of the recent Boston Marathon bombing. There is a great energy surrounding this event, and many students who never thought they could accomplish such a feat finished because of their own hard work and the support of their peers and families, who provided so much support throughout the day. It was a chilly day for running, but that didn’t stop anyone from making it an experience to remember!
