Mock Special Olympics Swimming Event at Triton College

The students who participate in the Special Olympics have had quite a season of training and competing. If you have been following my blog, you have seen that the Schiller Park Sharks have participated in sports such as basketball, gymnastics, soccer, and swimming.

The most recent event was the mock Special Olympics swimming competition that the District 81 administration and faculty set up for our students at Triton College, since the Illinois Special Olympics event was cancelled this winter due to poor weather conditions.  This particular event moved me in a way that is not easy to express.  To see children who experience challenges in the smallest movements in their everyday lives move so freely and lightly in the water was a joy that I will always cherish.  These children and the educators who swam by their sides continue to inspire me. I am so proud of District 81!
