Once again, the musical talents of our students have made me proud. This past September three band students (Andrea Cervantes-flute, Kinga Obrzut-clarinet, and Madison Stompor-flute) and five Lincoln choir students (Stephanie Herrera, Rachel Modi Amy Nicholson, Juhi Patel, Catherine Pawlowski) attended VanderCook College of Music’s Middle Level HonorFest. Over 300 students from all over the Chicagoland area and beyond all came together for this special event. The students rehearsed all morning and afternoon, and gave a final concert for a packed audience during the early evening.
I am also excited to share that Lincoln student Kinga Obrzut auditioned and was selected to participate in this year’s Illinois Music Educator’s Association (IMEA) Honor Band. This is quite an honor, since IMEA is one of the largest Fine Arts education organizations in Illinois and among the largest in the nation. Kinga will perform with other middle school students from IMEA’s District 1, which spans from northern Chicago all the way to Joliet, on Saturday, November 3rd.
On Friday, October 12th, all Lincoln band students went to West Leyden to participate in their Annual Band Night, which featured nearly 600 students from all over the Leyden area! Lincoln students got to meet and perform with their future Leyden bandmates. They performed the songs “Low Rider” and “Born to Be Wild” with the Leyden Marching Band for the halftime show.
Congratulations to all of these talented students and their families! I am so proud of the hard work and dedication that you contribute to our school community.
