Schiller Park District 81 Special Olympians Shine at Winter Event!

I was fortunate to attend the Winter Special Olympics Event at Deerfield High School on Sunday, January 29th. District 81 had several students participate in the individual basketball skills event. The event was well attended, with over 150 athletes participating! It was remarkable to see the partnership between District 81 staff and parents, as the District 81 Special Olympics Team had a huge fan club to support and encourage them as they showcased their talents.

District 81 had five athletes participate in the event and each one of them earned silver or gold medals!

Our two Gold Medalists, Juan and Gabriella have been invited to participate the Special Olympics State Competition in Bloomington, IL at the end of March.

We are very proud of our Silver Medalists, Cassidy, Ahmed and Ana. Cassidy is a Gymnastic Gold Medal winner who competed at the state level last summer!

I was touched to see the appreciation our parents had for the experience and I could not have been more proud of our athletes. I am forever grateful  for the commitment and dedication of the District 81 staff.  I was proud to see so many members of the District 81 community come out bright and early on a snowy morning to support our students.
