Today a whole new world opened up for many students from Washington School. The Reading Room teachers planned a rich and rewarding trip to the library for the fourth and fifth graders. While on the trip the students were given an overview of the many rich resources the library has to offer. Students who had a library card were able to check out books and other materials. Parents were invited too, and were able to get library cards for their children so they could begin checking out books today. A teacher’s dream is to see a look of excitement on their student’s face when holding a book in their hands, and to be able to share that experience with a parent makes it even more special. There is no doubt in my mind that these families will continue their love of reading and return to the library many times.
The teachers and staff of District 81 feel fortunate to work collaboratively with the community to support our students and expose them to the vast resources the library has to offer. The Schiller Park Library continues to make improvements that benefit the community, including enclosing the courtyard and converting it into a computer lab. The Dedication of this new space will take place on Wednesday, February 8th from 7-8 pm.
