The Project Heartwell Community Event was held on Sunday, October 2, 2011. The event was well attended, with over 300 runners/walkers registered to participate! The event was a true example of community and school district collaboration.
The District 81 Community Outreach Committee led by Mr. DJ Navarez consisted of a passionate and dedicated group of teachers and paraprofessionals in District 81. The committee did an outstanding job planning and preparing for the event. I am proud of the example they set for the students by sending a message which encourages involvement in activities that support those in need.
On behalf of the committee, I extend sincere gratitude to Mayor Anna Montana and the Village Board for the support provided to us throughout the planning stages as well as on the day of the event. The Police Department and Public Works department were pivotal in the development of a safe route for our runners/walkers. The Fire Department was on hand the day of the event, and many village officials participated. A big thank you to the Board of Education for understanding the value of events such as these as well as for your participation in the 5K. I am hopeful this event is the first of many joint efforts between Schiller Park District 81 and the Village of Schiller Park in support of our children and families.
